A Brief History

Leavenworth Summer Theater began as the vision of John and Susan Wagner and Bill Weis in 1994. That opening season was hampered by devastating fires in the Leavenworth area in addition to the normal first year struggles, and the theater suffered severe financial losses.

The Wagners decided to give it one more try in the summer of 1995 with a production of The Sound of Music. A great cast, a terrific outdoor location, and the natural compatibility of the show with Leavenworth’s Bavarian theme created a sensationally successful production.

Today, Leavenworth Summer Theater is the largest theater between Seattle and Spokane, with more than 20,000 people expected each summer.

Mission and Vision

Leavenworth Summer Theater’s mission is to present professional quality, family-oriented musical theater.

Our goal is to be an independent destination theater known and respected regionally for our excellence and positive impact in our community.

We are committed to improving and growing our theater as an inclusive environment for our community, actors, and patrons. We aim to create an environment where people of every race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, income, ability, and nationality, both internal and external to our organization, are welcomed and valued.
